Hearing Details
Senator Florence Shapiro, Chair, Senate Education Committee, and Representative Rob Eissler, Chair, House Public Education Committee, are hosting an exciting conversation on “The Role of Creativity in 21st Century Workforce Preparation ” on Monday, January 26, at 9 a.m. in the Senate Chamber at the Capitol.

Special presenter will be Dan Pink, author of the New York Times and BusinessWeek bestseller, A Whole New Mind – Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future. Pink, a Yale-educated attorney, will share his message on why “left-brain” dominance is gone and why the future belongs to a different kind of person with a different kind of mind – creative and emphatic “right-brain” thinkers.

Pink will be joined by Dr. Viktors Berstis, IBM master inventor; Raymond Hartfield, Director K-12 Education, AT&T; and Jack Bacon, NASA systems engineer and former project manager of the International Space Station. Each will speak from real world experiences on how, in their respective cases, involvement in the arts enhanced their creative skills and talents and why we must not overlook the role of the arts in the overall education of students in Texas schools.

This paradigm shift in how we train our workforce is real, and we think this will be exciting and scintillating conversation. It is our goal to get as many people to attend this dialogue on this most important subject that could potentially shape the future of Texas workforce training, and we have promised Senator Shapiro we can deliver a large turnout. We hope to have major press coverage, and it is important that we fill the Senate Chamber. If you can attend that would be wonderful. Certainly parents of your students as well as administrators who are in Austin next Monday for the TASA Midwinter Conference are welcome as well.

In addition, you should call your senator or representative’s office and as their constituent ask them to attend the hearing. Go to http://www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/ to get contact information for your state legislators. Simply call their offices at the Capitol.
